How do you send a digital save the date?
Create the event with the date and city, add a line saying the invitation will follow, and send each household its own link by text, email, or chat. Guests add the date to their calendar and can give an early answer. When the details are set, edit the event, and the same link becomes the invitation and collects the RSVPs. It's free, with no ads and no guest accounts.
A save the date is an invitation that isn't finished yet
Weddings, quinceañeras, family reunions, and milestone birthdays get a save the date months ahead, because out-of-town guests need to book flights and take time off. All they need from it is the date, the city, and a promise that details will follow.
On Hejmo, the save the date is the event's own page. Set the date, put the city in the location, and say in the details that the formal invitation will follow. Guests add the date to their calendar, and anyone who already knows can tap yes, maybe, or no.
When the venue, time, and schedule are settled, edit the event. Everyone keeps the same link, which now shows the full details and collects the RSVPs. Early answers stay put, and guests can change them from the link.
Where save the dates fall short
- Addresses come first
- Mailed cards need every guest's mailing address months ahead, and collecting them is its own project.
- The date scrolls away
- A photo in the group chat disappears under a week of messages, and few people add it to their calendar.
- Two mailings, two lists
- The save the date and the invitation go out separately, so anything that changes in between reaches guests twice.
- No early signal
- You learn who can't travel only when the formal RSVPs come back, long after the venue is booked.
Three steps from invite to headcount
Send it now and finish the details later, on the same link.
Set the date and the city
Create the event with the date, a start time you can change later, and the city as the location. Add a line saying the invitation will follow.
Send each household its link
Text it, email it, or post it in the family chat. Guests open it in any phone browser, with no account, and add the date to their calendar in one tap.
Fill in the details later
When the plans are set, edit the event. The same link shows the venue and schedule, and your dashboard shows who's coming, who's a maybe, and who to nudge.
Save the date designs
Try gold-on-navy garden, party flags, or any other painted design free; guests see it once the event has Plus ($12).
Made for hosts planning months ahead
One link from save the date to RSVP, household replies, and co-hosts. No guest accounts.
- One link from save the date to RSVP
- Guests never get a second link to lose. The page they saved months ago is the one that collects their answer.
- Households, not just names
- Add each household with the people in it. One guest answers for everyone, so couples and families count correctly.
- Painted designs or your photo
- Try any painted design free. Guests see it, or your own engagement photo, once the event has Plus ($12).
Ask who's traveling
Add an optional question guests answer with their reply. For a save the date, asking who's traveling in tells you how big a hotel block to hold.
One RSVP question is free. Families can answer or skip it.
Will you be traveling in for this?
Optional
A family's answer
Yes, flying in from Denver on Friday night. Send the hotel info!
Paste this in the family group chat
Share the news where everyone already is, then let each household's link hold the date.
Save the date! [Names] are getting married on [date] in [city]. I'm sending each household its own link: add it to your calendar, and the full invitation and RSVP will follow on the same link. No account needed.
Questions
Common questions about digital save the dates.
Are these save the dates free?
Yes. Hejmo is free for unlimited events, with a private link per household, RSVP tracking, nudges, co-hosts, and one RSVP question. There are no ads. Plus is optional: $12 for one event adds invitation styles, illustrated covers or your own cover photo, a custom link, a custom RSVP confirmation, and up to five RSVP questions.
Can I send a save the date without asking for an RSVP yet?
Guests always see Yes, No, and Maybe, but nobody has to answer yet. Say in the details that the formal invitation will follow. Guests can add the date to their calendar now, and any early answer can be changed from the same link.
Does Hejmo print or mail save the date cards?
No. Hejmo makes a link you share by text, email, or chat, so you don't need anyone's mailing address. If you also want printed cards, order them from a print shop and use Hejmo for the replies.
What if the date or venue changes?
Edit the event, and everyone's link shows the new details right away, with no second mailing. Hejmo doesn't send update messages, so tell guests about a big change yourself.
Is there a limit on guests?
No. Add as many households as you need, whether it's a 30-person reunion or a 200-guest wedding.
Do guests need an app or an account?
No. The link opens in any phone or computer browser. Guests read the date, add it to their calendar, and reply in two taps if they want to.
Run this event, then reuse the guest list for the next one
Free for unlimited events. Plus ($12 per event) adds invitation styles, illustrated covers or your own cover photo, a custom link, a custom RSVP confirmation, and up to five RSVP questions. If you host often, Host Pass puts Plus on every event you create for $19/year.
